Audrey Montgomery

Audrey’s artistic interests began at an early age.   “My favorite gifts as a child were art supplies.  I still remember the thrill of opening that box of new crayons, paints and paper." Audrey took art classes throughout school. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the University of Georgia and then continued her education at Auburn University where she received a Bachelor of Architecture. A native of Georgia, Audrey now lives in Beaufort, SC. She works with her husband at Montgomery Architecture and Planning.

“I have enjoyed working in Architecture but have to admit I miss pencil and paper drafting. I took a lot of pride in creating architectural drawings. Now almost everything is done using the computer."

Through the years Audrey has continued to draw and paint as a hobby, but it was not until 2009, after taking a drop-in watercolor class that she became serious about painting. “With these lessons, I developed a true passion for watercolors and find them a fascinating medium. The pigments can be granulating or non-granulating, transparent or opaque and the way each color reacts to another is different. The possibilities are endless."

Audrey has achieved Signature Membership in the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Southern Watercolor Society and South Carolina Watermedia Society. She received the Director's Award at the 2017 Transparent Watercolor Society National Exhibit and won Best of Show for the 36th South Carolina Watermedia Society Annual Exhibition. She has exhibited in several national and international shows including the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 “Fabriano in Acquaello”, Fabriano, Italy.
